Jesus is a model and teacher for how we can be better citizens of God’s kingdom.
Former member of Congress Marjorie Taylor Greene can never be accused of being timid about stating her opinions. In the past, many people of goodwill on both sides of the political aisle found some of her opinions obnoxious. But after activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated in September 2025 — and specifically after Charlie’s wife Erika said at his memorial service that she forgave his killer — Greene publicly took a step back from some of her previous spurious claims and hurtful actions. As she explained to a friend, “After Charlie died, I realized that I’m part of this toxic culture. I really started looking at my faith. I wanted to be more like Christ.”
None of us who follow Jesus are perfect in being more like him, and it’s not our intent to evaluate how well Greene is accomplishing her goal in that regard. But a desire to be more like Christ is a good reason to make course corrections in one’s life.
