TED Talks are a YouTube sensation — they’ve been viewed more than a billion times! But have we heard a GOD talk lately?

TED. The name comes from a conference in 1984 that focused on Technology, Entertainment and Design. But it grew to include almost any topic, from science to business to global issues. Today, TED is a nonprofit dedicated to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, high-impact talks.

Maybe you've seen a TED Talk on your computer. They are sermon-length (18 minutes or less) videos, and cover almost any topic you can imagine:

- The joy of surfing in ice-cold water,

- Magical houses made of bamboo,

- Programming bacteria to detect cancer,

- How to raise a black son in America,

- Why we need to rethink capitalism,

- Math is forever, and

- Why we laugh.

Laughter can certainly be part of a TED Talk, even though the talks are largely educational. In one, an Iranian-American comedian named Maz Jobrani takes on a number of serious issues in the Middle East -- such as the number of kisses to give when saying "Hi," and what not to say on an American airplane.
