Gait Analysis

Researchers at Georgia Tech have developed two models to analyze the way people walk. It’s a technology that people in Homeland Security hope will help identify known terrorists. The apostle Paul thinks that gait analysis might also identify Christians who are walking with God.

Do you walk this way? Or that way?

Think about the way you walk. Do you stride, swagger, swing, spring, strut, shuffle, waddle, ramble, amble, or scuff the soles of your shoes?

Do you have a distinctive and identifiable silly walk — like the one John Cleese performed in an episode of Monty Python’s Flying Circus?

Your way of walking, whatever it is, is as unique to you as John Wayne’s swaggering was to him.

Your gait is you.

As part of some new homeland security research initiatives, the way you walk may eventually be used to identify you up to 500 feet away, day or night, in any weather.

Two federally funded gait-recognition technology projects are now out of the gate and under development at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Gait recognition aims to detect, inspect, select, classify, and identify any individual based on the way she or he walks.
