Faith and the Status Quo

Heroes of the faith abandoned status quo rules.


In Jerusalem and Bethlehem the status quo has been codified and enshrined in an actual document known as the Status Quo. It’s a 250-year-old understanding between religious communities that applies to certain sites in these two cities. Good thing the ancient patriarchs were willing to abandon the status quo.

If you want to denigrate someone — a third party — while chatting with a friend over lunch at a local bistro, you might use one of the most popular put-downs ever: “They’re stuck in the status quo.”

Of course, you wouldn’t want to be unkind to anyone. You’re a pastor and a Christian. You’re beyond this sort of backstabbing and gossiping.
