Maternal metaphors for God are not uncommon in the Bible, and one striking example of this is Isaiah 66:13. "As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem." This text, then, is our choice for "Beyond the Lectionary" on Mother's Day.
